On Thursday, January 9, 2020, the section Staff Development of Friedrich Schiller University organizes the event "Datenschutz in der Wissenschaft: Forschungsfreiheit vs. informationelle Selbstbestimmung?" ("Data Privacy in Sience: Freedom of Research vs. Informational Self-Determination?", in German). The event takes place in seminar room 308 at campus Carl-Zeiß-Straße 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. Speaker is Dr. Philipp Siedenburg (Legal Office of the university, responsible for issues of data privacy). Aim of the event is to convey a basic understanding of the meaning and purpose of data privacy to researchers, and to enable them to meet the requirements of current data privacy law in their research projects. Focus are fundamentals of constitutional law (freedom of research, informational self-determination), principles of data privacy law in science (appropriation, transparency, restrictions for storing data), technical and organizational measures for data protection as well as research data management.
